How is Mindfulness helpful?

With regular practice, Mindfulness teaches us to:

  • Be more present and engaged in everyday life, rather than being lost in thoughts about the past or worry about the future

  • Step out of autopilot so we can be more purposeful in our day-to-day choices

  • Notice our direct experiences (body sensations, emotions, thoughts) – whether they be pleasant, unpleasant or neutral

  • Regulate emotions and ride the waves of their intensity

  • Learn to respond rather than react to or avoid difficulties

  • Relate to ourselves and others with kindness, warmth and compassion

Free Mobile Apps to help you Relax

These apps can be helpful for giving you a little bit of 'time out', and may bring a sense of calm amid the busyness of life. 

Breathe2Relax – helps to reduce physical symptoms of stress and anxiety by slowing down the breathing and heart rate

 

The Breath Ball – this free, simple app offers four different breathing exercises.  Simply select your preferred breathing exercise and session length, take a comfortable seat and breathe to the rhythm of the breathing ball. 

Insight Timer

This is a free app that offers a wide variety of guided meditations. Search the menu for all the available topics, which include: improving sleep, coping with anxiety, managing stress, strengthening relationships.  Take some time to explore what works for you.

Tide is a free app to help relieve stress, stay focused, relax, and sleep better. Tide allows you to get away from the fast-paced life, and enter into peaceful and calm moments.
