Welcome to Smooth Sailing Counselling

You may be wondering if counselling is right for you.

Counselling offers you a safe space, free of judgment and unhelpful advice, where you can explore your concerns, gain clarity, discover different perspectives and learn new ways to deal with life’s challenges, so that you can focus on the things that are important to you.

"So don't be afraid to let them show
Your true colors
True colors are beautiful
Like a rainbow"

Billy Steinberg and Tom Kelly

Some reasons people seek counselling include:

Anxiety: A normal survival response to perceived threats,  anxiety can easily hook you in, and lead you into all sorts of short-term coping strategies, creating unhelpful patterns that in the long term keep you away from achieving your goals. Understanding what is happening and learning coping strategies can reduce the impact of these difficult thoughts and feelings on everyday life.

Grief: Is a normal reaction to the loss of something, or someone important in our life, whether as the result of death, moving away, loss of ability or health, or the loss of a job, or home or relationship. It can feel like riding an emotional roller coaster of sadness, anger, denial, relief, disbelief, numbness, confusion. Learning to adjust to the loss and cope with the feelings can take time; counselling can help with expressing the emotions, deal with the pain and find new ways to cope.

Life Transition: Whether its a relationship breakdown, a Sea/Tree change, a career change, children becoming independent, caring for aging relatives -  all changes in life can see us questioning who we are, how we fit and what's important to us. Counselling provides the space to explore the 'new you', identify strengths values and goals.
